Mason Mount and Hudson-Odoi were also dropped for Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic to start.

Thirdly was his smart substitute:
When kovacics pick and injury in the second half of the game, many thought Jorginho was going to be introduced into the game, but to maintain the intensity of the game especially in the defensive angle against a dangerous and more physical french side Lille, Loftus-Cheek was introduced instead.

Loftus fitness and balance was enough to contend with the physical LOSC side. Cheek fell deeply behind being very careful with his moves while Nkolo kante was a bit more offensive which he assisted in the second goal of the game that sealed a super home win for the Blues in the first leg of the game.


The current European champions goes into the second tie of the game with more advantage while Lile will be hoping to turn things around for the blues in France.
