England fans are outraged by the ‘ridiculous’ decision to select Kieran Trippier over Trent Alexander-Arnold in the World Cup match against the United States.

After Kieran Trippier‘s ‘difficult’ first half against the US, England fans criticized manager Gareth Southgate for starting him instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Trippier’s right flank was dominated by Christian Pulisic during the first 45 minutes of their Group B showdown on Friday night. The second half wasn’t any better, with the teams drawing 0-0.

Alexander-Arnold is a starting right back for Liverpool, and as he sat on the bench, many questioned Southgate’s decision to select Trippier over the Merseysider.

Trent,’ one fan fumed: Trippier absolutely stinks I don’t know how he gets to start ahead of.

Another added: ‘Give me a valid reason why Trippier is playing ahead of Alexander-Arnold? You can’t.

‘Ridiculous to have someone that good at creating chances on the bench, with a striker like Harry Kane up top.’

A third moaned: ‘Watching Trippier’s use of the ball when Trent is on the bench really is painful.’

In the first 45 minutes, England appeared slow and lacked the energy that helped them easily defeat Iran 6-2 in their first encounter.

Trippier and Bukayo Saka, the right winger in Southgate’s front three, found it difficult to communicate, which allowed USA to dominate in wide areas.
