Alan Shearer and Ian Wright were full of praise for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea system that allowed the two wing-backs to thrive in the opposition half.

Unlike in recent weeks, neither Reece James nor Ben Chilwell managed to get on the scoresheet in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

However, they still caused a lot of problems for the Leicester defence throughout the game. Chilwell made three key passes in the game, while James made two, including the assist for N’Golo Kante.

Shearer highlighted that the solid defence behind the wing-back pair is the key to their incredible form.

Shearer told BBC MOTD: “They’re doing it because they have three very, very good centre-halves they can rely on. Also two midfielders in Jorginho and Kante [so that] they can say, ‘OK, we can get forward because we know the protection behind us. They [the two wing-backs] got forward so often today. Some of the time, both of them; Chilwell and James, were playing in midfield.”
Wright responded: “The thing is [they also had] the pace of those two; Chalobah, who was brilliant, and Rudiger, who had an unbelievable game today.”
