Chelsea’s crawling transfer window has left tons of room for plenty of extra strange speculation, and one of the more recent ones concerned Timo Werner going to Bayern Munich.

Werner’s first season at Chelsea may have ended with a Big Ears trophy in hand, with Werner himself leading the team in goals (jointly with Tammy Abraham) and goal-contributions in all competitions, but it was still a far cry from his goal-happy days at RB Leipzig.

That does give some credence to any rumor, but Chelsea are unlikely to give up on our big investment in the 25-year-old, who also played more minutes than all but two other Chelsea players (Mason Mount and goalkeeper Édouard Mendy).

Sources closer to Bayern also strongly doubt the veracity of those rumors, with Sport1 debunking the claim on multiple levels, including financial as well as sporting.

Even if Bayern were willing or able to spend big on Werner, their interest would depend on Robert Lewandowski’s eventual departure, whenever that may happen — the report’s guessing 2023, which is when Lewa’s current contract expires (barring any extensions signed in the meantime).

Bayern’s potential interest would also be predicated on head coach Julian Nagelsmann still being around, under whom Werner had so much success at Leipzig. (And don’t even think about a Lewandowski for Werner swap; this isn’t a video game.)

So, nothing to see here, at least nothing for the foreseeable future.
