Tim Sherwood has raved about the quality of Chelsea ace Mateo Kovacic, who he says has an “unbelievable” range of passing in his locker.
Kovacic, 27, is a popular figure with Blues supporters that can be the heartbeat of the team on his day.
He completed a permanent £40million move from Real Madrid to Stamford Bridge back in 2019 after a successful loan in London the previous year.
The ball-playing central midfielder is built in a different mould to some of his midfield teammates. Him, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are all different types of midfielders, so any combination between them has proven effective at different times.
A Kovacic-Jorginho pivot is extremely pleasing on the eye given the way that both players are excellent passers and comfortable receiving the ball to feet in any position.
Pundit Sherwood has waxed lyrical about the ability of Kovacic:
“They signed Kovacic when they had the embargo. They took him on loan and made it a permanent afterwards. He’s world-class. He’s got everything. He can dribble. His range of passing is unbelievable. He’s got every club in the bag,” Sherwood said.
We are seeing the best version of Kovacic again
Kovacic won the club’s Player of the Year back in the 2019/20 season, so it’s no surprise to see him starting this new campaign in such great form.
The Croatia international has looked back to his very best in the early weeks of this season. He put in a dominant performance last weekend with a goal and assist in the 3-0 league win over Aston Villa.
It’s his ability to break the lines with his dribbling that really makes him a key weapon for the Blues.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has one of the toughest jobs around trying to pick a starting XI each week and Kovacic doesn’t deserve to come out in this sparking form.
