Chelsea’s options in midfield this season has been a topic of discussion in the last few weeks.
The choices we have in the centre midfield position is in abundance, and it has been helped (or hindered depending on who you are), by the current form of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and the impact Ross Barkley has been making off the bench.
Thomas Tuchel has been speaking on this situation recently, and he sounds more than happy with his ‘super reliable’ options.
Speaking to the Club’s website, Tuchel highlighted the magnitude each midfielder held within the camp.
“With N’Golo, Kova and Jorgi, we have three fantastic central midfielders. All of them are a good mix, and allow us to play with two central midfielders and that is what we want.
“Nothing has changed, we are happy to have the guys and it is good for them to reach a lot of games, it shows they are important.
“Now we have added Saul and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the group, and we have more possibilities. They have to grow into that same game understanding of what we want.”
The resurgence of Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley’s resurrection has however helped spread the Blues midfield burden around. Which is helpful considering the games will come thick and fast when domestic football resumes.
