Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos has described Chelsea’s Thiago Silva as one of the best defenders in the world.

Marquinhos formed a great partnership alongside Silva when they played next to each other for PSG. Silva ended up leaving France in 2020 and signing for Chelsea.
There were question marks over how much of an impact the veteran centre-half could make in the twilight of his career, but he’s been a colossus at Stamford Bridge.
Aged 37, he’s still one of the first names on Thomas Tuchel’s Blues team sheet. Marquinhos has paid tribute to his ex-club teammate Silva, who he thinks is still one of the best in the business at his age.
“Thiago showed me the way, he was one of the best defenders in the world and he still is today,” Marquinhos told Telefoot, as quoted by Culture PSG.
For certain, Silva’s been one of the best centre-halves across European for well over a decade. Blues midfielder Mateo Kovacic recently described him one of the best of his generation.

English audiences have only been able to watch him in the Premier League for the last 18 months, but he’s barely put a foot wrong in the heart of the Chelsea XI. He definitely belongs in the category of the world’s best defenders still.
