The Curious Case of Édouard Mendy: From Unemployment to a Serial Winner

Édouard Mendy was already dreaming big in 2014, when his agent, who promised him a move to an English club, left him unemployed and he was about to run a cloth shop in France.

However, things took a fortunate turn in 2015 when he signed for Marseille as a reserve, before signing for second tier club, Reims and this was the take-off period for Mendy.

Mendy quickly became the first choice GK at Reims, where he took them to the Ligue 2 title, before joining Rennes and what followed was a other eye catching season for the Senegal star.

All his efforts were awarded when Chelsea legend Petr Cech spotted his talent and what followed was a big transfer to the West London – and there’s been no stopping him since.

The growth at Chelsea has also been unbelievable as Mendy, right now, is a UEFA Champions League winner with us, also a winner of the UEFA Super Cup, the prestigious UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year, the FIFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year, and just today, an AFCON winner, also bagging its Goalkeeper of the tournament award.

The meteoric rise of superstar Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is truly remarkable. He has shown that through persistence, resilience and self-belief, success can be accomplished.

This is nothing less than an absolutely sensational journey from almost quitting football to really winning it all, and the man deserves each and every accolade for his non-stop efforts to be the best.

What comes next is for Mendy from being a Champion of Europe, and a Champion of Africa, to hopefully being a World Champion very soon.
