According to Fabrizio Romano, Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting Lisbon, is greatly admired by Chelsea.

He asserted on Twitter that the 38-year-old is one of the options the club is considering as a Graham Potter replacement.

The Englishman was fired yesterday after Chelsea’s terrible run of play caused them to fall significantly in the standings.

It seems a loss to Aston Villa, which condemned the Blues to a place in the bottom half of the table, was too much for the owners to defend.

Todd Boehly had been Potter’s biggest fan, sticking by his appointment in an attempt to see things turn around at some point this season.

However, he has now been removed from his duties, leaving the question on everyone’s lips being who is set to come in to replace him.

Amorim Commended by Chelsea

The timing of Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking makes the links between the two parties very obvious. It has also been claimed that there is appreciation at the club for the talents of the German.

However, Romano has claimed the option of Amorim is certainly one to watch.

He said: “Chelsea approached Nagelsmann as top candidate. No compensation talks with Bayern… yet;

“Internal discussions will continue to make best decision. Ruben Amorim also appreciated, no talks with Pochettino as of now.”

The Sporting Lisbon manager is enjoying a stellar campaign so far. He has just led his side to five consecutive victories.

This has also coincided with a very strong showing in Europe, recently knocking favourites Arsenal out of the Europa League.

Hiring Amorim would maintain the intentions set out by originally hiring Potter, however of course that holds the same risks of failure that the previous employment did too.
