Goals from Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic, Armando Broja and a Hakim Ziyech hat-trick earned Chelsea a 6-1 win over Peterborough in their first pre-season game.

Chelsea picked up right where they left off on Saturday, as Thomas Tuchel’s side ran out 6-1 winners in their pre-season opener against Peterborough United.

It’s the Blues’ first game since overcoming Manchester City in the Champions League final at the end of May.

It was a rather more low-profile showing for Tuchel’s fringe players, but many took the opportunity to impress the boss with both hands.

Hakim Ziyech netted a hat-trick, while goals from Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja will have pleased the Chelsea boss.

But it wasn’t just Tuchel taking in the action, with Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony hinting Roman Abramovich had tuned in.

He posted on social media that the Posh’s media manager was left “starry eyed when we were asked to share our match stream with a certain football club owner”.

However, Abramovich has been left frustrated in recent times with Covid and visa issues limiting his ability to take on games in person.

That hasn’t affected his commitment to the cause however, revealing his ambition to succeed is just as burning as it was when he bought the club in 2004.

“The ambitions are as true now as they were when I first became owner and I hope that can be seen through the work we have been doing on and off the pitch over the last 17 years,” he said in a recent interview with Forbes.

“I think the trophies speak for themselves and show what we as a club have been able to achieve over these years,” Abramovich added.

“And it’s my goal for us to keep winning trophies going forward and build for the future.”
