It’s going to be one of those deadlines day where Chelsea fans are kept interested right until the end, even though as it stands it doesn’t look like their club will do much business.

In terms of incoming players, there have been two moves bubbling under in recent weeks. Jules Kounde’s transfer from Sevilla looks to have run aground, with Chelsea not willing to meet the release clause in the defender’s contract.

The loan deal for Saul Niguez is similarly stranded, but Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph has been told there is still “a bit of life” in the deal.

The fact is that loan deals are quicker to organise and rubber stamp than permanent deals, for various reasons, so until the deadline passes, we can’t rule anything out.

Saul wants to go, Atletico want him off the wage bill, Chelsea want midfield cover – that should be enough to keep hope alive.
