Kalidou Koulibaly is considering a move away from Chelsea after just a year at the club, but Mauricio Pochettino is likely to try to change his mind this summer.
According to GiveMeSport, Kalidou Koulibaly is considering leaving Chelsea at the end of the season and pursuing a return to Italy.
It is understood that the £33million (Sky Sports) defender has struggled during his debut season in English football, so the former Napoli star may want a move back to Italy.
However, the report does claim that Mauricio Pochettino is a long-term admirer of Koulibaly. In fact, Pochettino could try to change the 31-year-old’s mind and persuade him to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino is rumoured to be Chelsea’s next permanent manager, and it sounds like he’s already got plans for certain members of the Blues squad.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on Twitter this morning that Chelsea have had further positive talks with Pochettino in the last 24 hours and they’re in the final stages of appointing him as their new head coach.
Pochettino will be walking into a huge dressing room this summer, which desperately needs cutting to a more reasonable size.
The future of Koulibaly is certainly one of the more intriguing cases.
Koulibaly may not have been at his very sharpest during his debut Chelsea season, but he’s an experienced member within the squad with a lot of quality. He just needs the right manager to install confidence in him!
Chelsea’s caretaker boss Frank Lampard recently shared that he’s been impressed by Koulibaly.
The Senegal international was regarded as one of Serie A’s elite centre-backs during the last few years, which is why many are so surprised to see him deliver inconsistent performances during his first year in England.
We’re not totally writing off his Chelsea career yet, though, especially if Pochettino has plans for him.
