Chelsea are now leading the race to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer window.

That is according to reports in Italy from Sempre Inter, who say that Chelsea have shown the most interest in grabbing the Cameroonian stopper.

Signing a new goalkeeper appears to be right at the top of Chelsea’s priorities list for the summer.

Kepa has been first choice for much of the campaign but is yet to fully convince, while Edouard Mendy no longer seems to get a look on – regardless of who is manager.

Both Chelsea goalkeepers have actually been talked up as potential swap options for Onana, but it seems that Todd Boehly will have to get his cheque book out again if he is to sign the Inter man.

The report claims that Inter have absolutely no interest in doing a trade and want straight cash for their ‘excellent‘ goalkeeper.

That does not appear to be putting Chelsea off, though.

Manchester United and Barcelona are also listed as candidates to sign Onana, but it is Chelsea who are currently pushing hard

Onana a good signing for Chelsea?

If Onana was to come to Chelsea he could be an appealing addition for their new manager, which is looking more and more likely to be Mauricio Pochettino.

The 27-year-old is said to be valued at around £35 million, which is far from an insignificant amount of money, but does put him well within Chelsea’s price-range.

In terms of quality, Onana is widely recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in European football.

His form for Inter and, formerly, Ajax has seen him earn a reputation as a brilliant shot stopper.

And having a reliable figure between the sticks can surely only spark an improvement in Chelsea next year.
