Alan Shearer has claimed that Chelsea “battered” Newcastle United today in the Premier League clash at St James’ Park.
Chelsea recorded a 3-0 win away to Newcastle to help extend their lead at the top of the league table. Results elsewhere mean they are three points clear ahead of second-placed Liverpool, plus five points ahead of third-placed Manchester City.
The Blues battled away for a long period against a stubborn defence. However, it was Reece James that found the breakthrough.
The England right wing-back scored an eye-catching brace. First of all, he thundered in a left-footed effort to break the deadlock. He doubled his and Chelsea’s tally shortly after with a similar effort but on his right.
Jorginho added some gloss to the scoreline late on with his penalty. Alan Shearer reacted on Twitter to the Newcastle v Chelsea result:
No Mount. No Lukaku. No Werner. No Pulisic. No Kovacic. No problem for Chelsea. Battered Newcastle today. Nothing from the Toon at all. #NewChe — Alan Shearer (@alanshearer)
Yet again, Chelsea’s defenders were on hand to bail out the team. James, who’s now scored four goals and made three assists in all competitions this season, is thriving going forward.
The Blues were missing so many important attackers at the weekend, but they kept pushing away and eventually found their breakthrough against Newcastle team.
