Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge saw the Red Devils put up a solid progressive performance. They broke a six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup, and they also qualified for the Champions League.
Neville has reportedly now encouraged the team to fill two critical positions in the summer, according to Metro. The United legend thinks the team needs a new shot-stopper due of David de Gea‘s proneness to errors.
He added that the Red Devils also require a new striker, he said: “You have got to start with a centre forward and a goalkeeper.”
Manchester United could turn to Moises Caicedo if they can’t agree fee for Chelsea star Mason Mount
“If you don’t have those two positions fixed in a football team you are massively struggling.
“Manchester United are massively struggling particularly up front, but it has come to the time where they have to get a top goalkeeper.
“That Cup final [against City] said it to us all. I don’t like mentioning it too much but the second goal shouldn’t have gone in the back of the net.
“The reality of it is, David de Gea has had a great career at Manchester United, he has been a fantastic goalkeeper.
“But now is the time for him to be challenged and get someone in to be that no1.”

After a sluggish start to the 2022/23 season, Manchester United outperformed expectations. Their achievement was primarily owing to Marcus Rashford’s heroics in front of goal.
The England international had 30 goals and 11 assists. During the first few months after the World Cup, he performed at a world-class level.
The fans will be hopeful that the club graduate can repeat his performance next season, but United still require a goalscoring number nine to compliment him.
United needs a true striker up front since Rashford plays best on the left side of the attack. Anthony Martial l scored nine goals last season.

With 17 clean sheets, the Spaniard earned the Premier League Golden Glove, but for the majority of the season, playing out from the back made him appear weak.
The 32-year-old was guilty of giving the opponent cheap possession while committing four mistakes that resulted in goals. Clearly, United clearly need an upgrade right now.
Although De Gea is close to agreeing to a new long-term contract, the team should still look for a modern shot-stopper with better movement and distributing abilities.
