Chelsea take on West Ham on Monday night, and that game will see two of this season’s most impressive central midfielders in action.
The Blues have N’Golo Kante at the heart of their formation, while it’s Declan Rice who makes the Hammers tick.
WhoScored scored has Kante as the fourth best interception maker in the league with 2.3 a game, while Rice is just a fraction behind on 2.2.
Kante makes 2.8 tackles to Rice’s 1.8.
Their passing stats are very similar – high completion rates and high numbers of short passes as they keep it simple and effective, moving the ball to others with more license to attack.
There have been suggestions that Rice is the man to replace Kante when he leaves Chelsea, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top on Monday night, in what could be seen as a little audition for West Ham’s captain.
Kante still has a lot in the tank, but of all the candidates to replace him, Rice looks to be putting together the most impressive portfolio.
