Germany manager Hansi Flick has provided the latest fitness update on Chelsea star Kai Havertz after his absence in the 9-0 win over Liechtenstein on Thursday.

The 22-year-old did not make the matchday squad during the match at the Volkswagen Arena after reportedly missing a few training sessions due to a minor thigh injury.

His Chelsea teammate Antonio Rudiger picked up a yellow card on Thursday and has left the squad since he is suspended for the next game.

Havertz, on the other hand, will be in the starting line-up, as confirmed by Flick. He said during Saturday’s press conference (via Spox)

“Marc [ter Stegen] will play from the beginning, we also assume that Kai can play. He trained with the team for the first time today, he is fit and will play from the start.”

Obviously, this is great news for the Blues. The versatile midfielder has been Thomas Tuchel’s best option for the central forward role amid Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner’s injury absences.

Lukaku recently hinted at his imminent return, but it remains uncertain if he will be fit enough to play the full 90 minutes against Leicester City next week.
