Leicester City player Luke Thomas has explained that he’s been blown away by the recent form of Chelsea wing-back Ben Chilwell.
Thomas, 20, is a Leicester left-back that has ended up replacing Chilwell at the King Power Stadium.
Chilwell completed a £50million move from Leicester to Chelsea back in 2020, winning the Champions League during his first season at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old England international has been in sensational form during the past couple of months in the left wing-back position.
He scored in three consecutive Premier League games in October, along with his first ever England goal in September. Luke Thomas has admitted he been studying Chilwell’s game for tips. He said, as quoted by The Sun:
“I’ve been watching Chilly recently and he’s had the timing on point. Either when he’s going into the box and he’s going to get a chance to score, or if he is going to hold off and help his defenders out in case of a counter-attack. I wouldn’t say it’s a defensive role or an attacking role. It’s a bit of both. If you get the chance to get into the box, then definitely I’d get in there.”
There were a few eyebrows raised last summer when Chelsea forked out £50million on Chilwell, but the transfer decision has been more than justified.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers recently hailed Ben Chilwell ahead of Saturday’s tie with Thomas Tuchel’s side.
But beauty of the current Chelsea squad is that there is serious competition for places all over the park.
