Romelu Lukaku thinks that he’s already developing a “good understanding” with Chelsea teammate Cesar Azpilicueta. Lukaku has only played few games for Chelsea, but feels there is already a combination forming with Blues club captain Azpilicueta

The Chelsea striker has four goals in four games since returning, so it’s been a dream start to the new campaign. Intriguingly, 32-year-old centre-back Azpilicueta has assisted two of his goals already.

Azpilicueta played a clever pass to Lukaku on the edge of the box to set up him scoring in the Premier League victory against Aston Villa. He followed that up on Tuesday night with a floated cross for the striker to head in during the Champions League win over Zenit St Petersburg.

Lukaku said: “It was a beautiful ball in from Cesar [against Zenit].I think we have a good understanding, we both know what positions to take up and what areas to put the deliveries into. I knew he would put in the right sort of cross, I just had to get my timing right and find the corner.”

Azpilicueta’s quality on the ball is somewhat underrated, so opponents can often fall into the trap of allowing him time on the ball.

Former Blues striker Alvaro Morata benefited off Azpilicueta’s crossing in the past. Therefore, it’s easy to see why a similar partnership can form with Lukaku.
