The young centre-back is another product from the academy at Cobham and has barely put a foot wrong during his brief senior career at Chelsea. He has worked his way into the senior Blues squad at Stamford Bridge this year.

As a result, the 22-year-old defender is getting to train and play alongside some top centre-halves and he says it’s an honour getting to play alongside the 37-year-old Thiago Silva.

Silva has been performing at the top level for well over a decade, so is such a great role model for every player in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Trevoh Chalobah told talkSPORT: “I look up to Thiago a lot. I used to watch a lot of clips of him when I was younger, how calm, how composed he is, aspects of his game I can learn in training.

“Obviously there is a language barrier as he doesn’t speak much English but watching him in training is enough for me to learn. It’s an honour sharing a pitch with a world class player like him.”

Chelsea knew they were getting one of the top defenders of recent times when they signed Silva on a free transfer in August 2020.

Silva is ageing like a fine wine even at 37. The veteran defender colossus has defied all expectations. His leadership within the group is so apparent and the likes of Chalobah are so lucky to have him as a mentor.
