Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson cast an eye over his crystal ball and prophesied who would be victorious out of Chelsea and Brentford in the Premier League this weekend.
Writing for the BBC, Lawrenson anticipated a 2-0 swing in favour of the Blues on Saturday. Forecasting the English first division can generally be pretty easy.
Although the season is only seven games young, the table is already starting to take a familiar shape. Yet, a few surprises packages have popped up along the way, causing predictions to be a little less predictable.
Brighton & Hove Albion are currently level on points with third-placed Manchester City, after facing only one defeat in their opening fixtures. The other outlier is the side Chelsea take on tomorrow.
Interestingly, the Bees singular loss came at the hands of fellow high-flyers Brighton, an indication of the pair’s prosperity.
Mark Lawrenson gave it a go anyway and decided to lean in Chelsea’s direction:
"This is the first time these two west London clubs have met in the league since 1947 so Brentford’s ground will be rocking again for this one, but I just fancy Chelsea to silence them on Saturday. The Blues had a bit of a blip at the end of last month but they came through that, and I am expecting another professional performance from them this time," said the former Liverpool defender.
Manchester City managed to halt the Blues’ progress, which was compounded further by Juventus in the following outing.
Chelsea did roar back to life against Southampton before the international break though, and will need a similarly sterling effort to overcome Brentford.
