On Thursday, September 15, Manchester United won its first match of the current Europa League season by a score of 2-0 thanks to a second goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Erik ten Hag‘s team dominated FC Sheriff Tiraspol, who had defeated Omonia 3-0 in their previous group round match. On their own turf, they managed to hold off the Moldovan side.

The opponents diligently sought out opportunities in the final third and made attempts on goal to start the game. They lacked the clinical quality to start the scoring, though, and Manchester United took advantage of a defensive slip in focus to strike first.
With a fantastic through-the-middle ball to Jadon Sancho, Christian Eriksen turned provider as he maintained his strong form for the English team. In the 17th minute, the England international took two touches to position himself on the outskirts of the box before unleashing a left-footed shot that gave the Red Devils the lead.
With 38 minutes left in the game, Patrick Kpozo tripped Diogo Dalot in the penalty area due to an error by the Sheriff defense, and the referee quickly pointed to the spot. Cristiano Ronaldo accepted responsibility for the penalty, and the Portuguese superstar easily converted it to score his first goal of the season by sending the ball down the middle.
The forward will hope he has a successful season at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils intent on winning the Europa League.
