According to numerous media reports, former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has reached an agreement to lead DC United in Major League Soccer.

Rooney, who was a player for DC United from 2018 to 2019, resigned as Derby County’s manager last month, after a tumultuous 17-month period that saw the English club plagued by financial difficulties and demoted to the third division.

Rooney will replace interim coach Chad Ashton, who took over after Hernan Losada left in April, according to the reports on Sunday. Rooney has reportedly been in talks with the American club for weeks.

Rooney led Manchester United to 253 goals, five Premier League championships, and the Champions League.

In 2020, he was hired by Derby as a player-coach before being promoted to manager the following season.
