According to The Daily Mail , England midfielders Mason Mount and Phil Foden are set to be recalled to Gareth Southgate’s starting XI on Tuesday against Germany.

England are preparing for Tuesday’s mammoth last-16 tie against Joachim Low’s men, which will be played in front of more than 40,000 fans at Wembley.

England have no fresh concerns heading into the match, but Mount and Chilwell continue to have to train away from the main group.

Mount and Chilwell are due to be in isolation up to and including Monday after coming into contact with Chelsea team-mate Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for Covid-19.

However, The Daily Mail have reported that Foden and Mount are both set to start against Germany on Tuesday evening.

Foden started in England’s first two group games at Euro 2020. With him on a yellow card, Southgate took the decision to leave him out against the Czech Republic in their final group game.

But he is set to return to their starting XI against Germany. They also suggest that Mount is due to start.

They add that these recalls mean that Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is set to drop out. This comes after he impressed in his major tournament debut against the Czech Republic.

Earlier this week, Joe Cole called for Mount to start against Germany ahead of Jack Grealish:

“As much as I love Jack, I’d go with Mase ahead of him for this game.

“Jack won’t like this, but having Jack off the bench, if it’s level after 60 minutes, imagine Wembley seeing Jack step up if we need something.

“You need someone on the bench who can change something.

“Mason’s a little bit more disciplined in the central position which allows you to change the system a little bit.

“It’s like choosing [a favourite] between your kids. Choosing between Mason Mount and Jack Grealish… I love them both!”
