Prior to his departure from Lyon, Malo Gusto reportedly had nothing but eyes for Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the defender decided on the South West London club after learning of the attention from Stamford Bridge.
Gusto eventually got what he wanted.
The 19-year-old will link up with Graham Potter’s squad in the summer instead.
Fans and the board, who see the France Under-21 international as Reece James’ long-term backup, will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting his arrival.
Todd Boehly and his team had to find a suitable standby for the academy graduate due to concerns about James’ injury.
They have undoubtedly found a treasure in Gusto, a player well-liked all throughout the continent.
Given that the right-back seemed to prefer joining the Blues to joining another team, it might be a perfect match.
“Another English team attempted to ruin Malo Gusto’s transfer to Chelsea. They attempted to get in touch with Lyon,” said Romano.
“We know the deal lasted roughly ten days from the time Chelsea started holding formal bid talks with Malo Gusto. Another English club attempted, but it was unsuccessful.
Sounds like everybody involved with the transaction is happy.
Chelsea got their man; Gusto got his transfer.
Now, we just have to wait and see if the dream agreement is all it’s made out to be.
