Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Barcelona have won the race to sign young defender Mikayil Faye this summer.

He took to Twitter to say that the La Liga champions had beaten Chelsea among other clubs to a potential deal.

While a major overload of the first team is needed at Stamford Bridge, it still seems as if the Blues are looking to add young stars to their ranks for the future after doing so frequently in the last two transfer windows.

Todd Boehly’s first campaign in charge saw them look to add a host of promising players, with the aim of them being involved in the first team in the near future.

The highlight addition last summer was Carney Chukwuemeka, who has been one of the players who will have felt unlucky to not be playing more as last season came to an end.

January saw them make the signing of Andrey Santos, who was unable to secure a work visa following a sensational international campaign just after making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea miss out on Mikayil Faye

However, he has already had his qualities made aware to new manager Mauricio Pochettino, and his future certainly looks promising.

Unfortunately, they will not be adding Faye to their ranks, with Romano issuing his famous ‘here we go’ slogan that makes it clear that the deal is done.

He said: “Barcelona are set to sign top talented centre back Mikayil Faye from NK Kustosija. Deal done, here we go. Born in 2004, linked with Chelsea and BVB.

“Barça see Faye as a potential future top player. Deal agreed on €5m fee plus add-ons, to be signed soon.”

His talents suggest he is going to be a very promising left-footed defender, however Chelsea can already boast their own one of these if they can keep hold of Levi Colwill.
