Chelsea gain ground on RB Leipzig‘s Christopher Nkunku… the player has agreed personal terms to become one of new manager Graham Potter’s first signings in the summer of 2023.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Christopher Nkunku will frighten the Manchester City team after the Frenchman did score a hat-trick for RB Leipzig against the Sky Blues in last year’s Champions League match.
According to reports, the player has agreed personal terms to become one of new manager Graham Potter’s first signings in the summer of 2023, with the Blues having had a bid worth more than £52.7 million accepted by the Bundesliga club.
Nkunku’s transfer appears to have been in the works for some time, with reports in Germany last Friday claiming that the player had completed a secret medical with the west London club. This appears to have progressed to a completed deal, with the 24-year-old said to have agreed.
The France international is regarded as one of the best players in the German Bundesliga, capable of playing in a variety of attacking positions, including No. 10 and upfront. Since joining Leipzig from PSG in 2019, he has scored 55 goals and provided 48 assists in 148 appearances. He has been in excellent form this season, scoring six goals and ranking second in the Bundesliga scoring charts.
Manchester City witnessed his talent firsthand in the Champions League last season, when the forward netted a hat trick in a 6-3 loss to the German side. Given his history, there will be concerns that he will repeat the same behaviour if he joins Chelsea.
Despite an impressive start to the season, Pep Guardiola‘s men have shown some defensive flaws this season. They have conceded nine goals in their first eight games, with Newcastle and Manchester United each scoring three times.
Nkunku was in fine form this weekend, contributing to Leipzig’s 4-0 victory over VfL Bochum. The Frenchman scored twice from attacking midfield, while former Chelsea player Timo Werner added two more. The result was enough to move the team up to 11th in the Bundesliga as they sought to avert a disastrous start to the season in which they conceded 12 goals in their first seven games.
