Chelsea’s pre-season moved away from Cobham today with coach Tuchel and his first-team squad heading off to Ireland for a week-long training camp.
The Blues will be based in Dublin until next Tuesday and plan to play a local side in a friendly match on Thursday accorting to football.london.
The opponent and location of the game has not yet disclosed. Names of few players are involved with the first-team group, including Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, a large number of returning loanees, and a couple of academy graduates who are on the road back for long-term injuries.
This makeshift squad had its first taste of match action this summer on Saturday against Peterborough United.
The Blues ran out 6-1 winners with Ziyech scoring a hat-trick, Tammy Abraham on target, Christian Pulisic winning and converting a penalty, and Armando Broja also on the scoresheet.
After the recovery session on Sunday, the players were back in at Cobham yesterday to undergo Covid testing ahead of the Ireland trip and also a training session.
This morning at Cobham, the group and Tuchel’s coaching staff gathered before heading off to the airport board their place to Ireland. A training session is planned for this afternoon following the Blues arrival.
The likes of N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Antonio Rudiger and Mateo Kovacic are expected to report back for pre-season training this week had three weeks off after their exploits at Euro 2020.
The squad that has travelled to Dublin is made-up of the players who have been training over the past week, minus Tino Anjorin and Ian Maatsen.
