It is quite a busy time at the Cobham. Chelsea’s promising young talents are having their futures sorted out.
Some will be moving on, whilst others will be offered new deals and onto the scholarship scheme, depending on their ages.
Chelsea have confirmed that two promising rising Nigerian players, Richard Olise and Mendel-Idowu, who are no longer eligible for the U16s and have been promoted to the U18s for the 2021-2022 campaign.
Mendel-Idowu is a highly rated left-footed attacking midfielder, as per All Nigeria Soccer, and Chelsea will be pleased to get him contracted to the club for a further year.
Both players have Nigerian descent, although Mendel-Idowu has been capped for England at youth level.
Tudor Mendel-Idowu has been part of the club since his Under-8 season, first registering for the Academy as an Under-9.
A talented left-footed attacking player who can play out wide or through the middle, Tudor attends Eton College where he studies a range of subjects including English, Greek, German, Latin, Maths and Physics, and has been involved in England camps at Under-15 level.
However, Richard Olise, was soaked in joy after the club confirmed his contract.
Richard celebrated signing properly by holding up next season’s Chelsea shirt with a big grin and the message “happy to sign a new contract.”
This protects him from being poached by other clubs, and is the first step towards a full time pro contract, which we have no doubt he will get at some point in the near future if he continues his rapid and impressive development as a player.
Well done Richard, Well done Mendel-Idowu – now take the next step!
