In a game that was finely poised throughout, it was the composure and steel of the Italians that proved victorious as they came from behind to win the game 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
The Gareth Southgate boys believed, especially after 7 minutes when Luke Shaw fired them ahead.
Unfortunately Gareth Southgate did not set his team up to go ahead and win finish the match off, he tried to sit and contain a great Italian team and it was inevitable it could turn around on them with such a risky setup.
With that, Chelsea Football Club have paid tribute to the three Chelsea players in the England squad this morning, as seen here…
England dominated for the remainder of the first half, with Mount at the heart of England’s attacks and linking up well in attack with Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

However, Italians were in control after the break and they deservedly drew level when Leonardo Bonucci scrambled the ball home from a corner after 67 minutes.
It was Mancini’s side that looked the more likely to find a winner in normal time, but in truth extra time seemed inevitable. That was the way things played out, with another 30 minutes required to try and separate the sides.
Finally, Italy came out victorious as they came from behind to win the game 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
Chelsea Football Club took to social media with some words of comfort for their three players (Mount, James and Chilwell) in the England squad this morning, as they will now be expected to undergo few days holiday before plans to report back to Chelsea Cobham training ground for pre-season campaign.
