Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool set for £86m transfer battle for Valencia star

Chelsea FC are looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the January transfer window, while Arsenal FC are rumored to be looking for a new central midfielder.

One of Valencia FC’s top midfielders is the subject of an apparent £86 million bidding battle between Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Before relocating to Spain in 2019, Yunus Musah was a part of Arsenal’s youth program.

Musah impressed many Premier League clubs by being one of the top performers for the USA at the World Cup in Qatar. The 20-year-old made an impression with his outstanding performance against England in their Group B match, but the USA’s loss to the Netherlands prevented him from advancing his country through the round of 16.

During the U.S. Men’s National Team’s campaign in Qatar, Musah started all four games. Now that the team has returned home, Musah is refocusing on his club career with Valencia. The Blues, Arsenal, and Liverpool FC are all rumored to be interested in signing the outstanding midfielder, so this may not remain the case for long.

According to 90Min, Valencia is trying to extend Musah’s contract in an effort to fend off interest from the Premier League. Musah has two assists in 11 appearances for his club so far this season.

The release clause in his current contract, which already extends until 2026, is set at €100 million (£86 million), but it’s likely that the Spanish side would prefer to have it raised.

While Graham Potter‘s team at Chelsea could use some additional freshness and energy, Jurgen Klopp’s team is rumored to be interested in strengthening their aging midfield.

According to the report, Chelsea and Liverpool have contacted Musah’s representation to express their interest in signing the 20-year-old player, who has been followed by Arsenal since he graduated from their academy in 2019. Musah might try to finalize a transfer to the Premier League in January as Valencia continues to struggle and currently sits in tenth position in La Liga.
