The European giants feel De Jong simply ‘must’ accept the offer due to their desire to get him off the books for financial reasons.

The Dutchman might have no choice but to leave Spain after the latest update from Barcelona newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

Erik ten Hag’s chances of reuniting with the 25-year-old have recently received a huge boost, according to a Spanish news source, as Barca has asked De Jong to leave the club this summer.

The reason being is that the midfielder’s departure from Camp Nou would save up approximately €30-35 million on the club’s pay line.

Should United complete the deal for the Dutch star, the Premier League club will pay a total of €85m to the Catalan club. That is broken down into an initial fee of around €75m plus add-ons, which will be accumulated over time through performances.

De Jong, on the other hand, thinks he is “between a rock and a hard place” after learning of this development. But this will be excellent news for Man United, ten Hag, and the club’s fans, as the long-wait appears to be coming to an end.
