Cesar Azpilicueta has battled for years to get into the Spain squad, and had years of inferior players used ahead of him. Now he’s in the team, and he even scored a vital goal for his country to take the lead against Croatia last week.

He did the full length interview in Marca this week, where he revealed that he hadn’t had any texts from his Chelsea teammates despite his historic moment.

He did say he’d spoken with Mateo Kovacic before and after the game however – and we’re sure if he continues to do well in the rounds to follow there will be a few group texts flying around.

In the meantime, as we know, Azpi will keep working hard and trying to keep his place in Luis Enrique’s team for the games to come. We wouldn’t back against him adding a European Championship to his Champions League this summer either.
