Antonee Robinson is often referred to as’ Jedi ‘by his Fulham teammates… and for good reason.
The 24-year-old defender has recently established himself for both club and country. Last season, he helped Scott Parker’s side gain Premier League promotion while also becoming a regular for the United States national team. That is all well and good.
Robinson, on the other hand, demonstrated one of his other skills earlier this week. To kill time during the club’s pre-season tour, the defender performed his ‘Jedi mind trick’ around the dinner table, earning a well-deserved standing ovation. What a fantastic idea!
The incredible card trick, unsurprisingly, has gone viral after Fulham’s official Twitter account posted the clip at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. “How has he done that?” one fan wondered, while another exclaimed, “I can’t get enough of this.”
If you can’t watch the video [which I highly recommend], here’s a transcript of what happened.
“This is a standard deck of cards.” “There’s nothing funny going on,” Robinson began. So let me tell you a story about something that happened to me. I was walking down the street when I came across these two redheads. I’d been talking to them for one, two, or three minutes when their friends came over. It was a pair of brunettes.
“Hello, my name is Jedi,’ I said. ‘It’s nice to meet you.’ So, what are your plans for tonight? ‘Oh, we’re going to a party at 673 King Street,’ they explained. I inquired about the cost of admission. They said it was 25 pounds. ‘How much?’ I inquired. They said it was 25 pounds.”
Robinson continues, saying: “I’m walking down to meet them when my phone rings. ‘Hello Jedi speaking, who is it?’ I say. When they asked what I was doing tonight, I told them I was going to a party with these girls at 700 and something King Street. The girls corrected themselves and stated that it was 673 King Street. It was 673 King Street, not 673 King Street.
Do you have any idea how much it cost to get in? 25 quid. I only have ten pounds on me. ‘Don’t lie to me,’ said the bouncer. ‘OK, I’ve got 40 pounds, but that’s all I’ve got,’ I said. Please provide me with a good table at the very least.’ They said, “No problem, Jedi.” We’ll take care of you.”
The Fulham defender then requests that one of the club’s backroom staff cut the cards once more.
“So, when we got there,” Robinson says, “we ended up going into the casino.” “And everyone expected me to cut cards and deal them a good hand so they could win.” So the first guy asked for a pair of fours and three eights. ‘That’s fine,’ I said.
“‘I want to beat that,’ said the next guy.” ‘Could you please give me four nines?’ So I said, “That’s fine.” ‘Can you give me an eight and four aces?’ said my friend as we walked in. ‘No problem,’ I said. One, two, three, and four are available. “Everyone looked at me and said, ‘Jedi, you’re not going anywhere.” And then I turn around and pull out the flush.”
Robinson, it turns out, is a man of many talents. In addition to occasionally impressing his teammates with card tricks, the USA international is an accomplished pianist.
During last season’s Championship campaign, Fulham posted a video of ‘Jedi’ playing the song ‘River Flows in You.’
He’s in full flow here.
