The Italian club indicated a willingness to spend Β£25 million plus bonuses for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea said late on Wednesday night that the club had not yet received a ‘formal’ second offer from Inter despite having already rejected one of Inter’s offers.
Although it appears Inter is still well short of Chelsea’s Β£40 million asking price, sources in Italy claim Inter recently made a second attempt to sign Lukaku.

Negotiations between the teams are thought to be ongoing, with Lukaku aiming for an agreement this week.
Chelsea delayed Lukaku’s return to pre-season training back until next Monday, but the Belgian has no plans to return to London this summer.
Romelu Lukaku is determined on returning to Inter, where he was on loan last season, and has so far turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Juventus.
This has forced Chelsea into a difficult decision about the striker’s future, given the 30-year-old is also prepared to accept a wage cut of Β£1 million annually to return to Inter..
If Lukaku were to return to Chelsea on Monday, he would almost definitely be told to train at Cobham rather than accompany the team on its preseason tour of the United States.

The parties are hoping to come to an agreement before next Monday to avoid any potential controversy, but the Belgian will not return if a move back to Inter is not agreed.
Hakim Ziyech and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have both been granted till next Monday to resume training as Chelsea look to offload the two.
Aubameyang and Ziyech were also supposed to resume training on Wednesday, just like Lukaku.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has reportedly decided he wants to leave Chelsea and is training separately from the rest of the club.
