Jurrien Timber, a Manchester United transfer target who has also been linked with a move to Anfield, has already garnered praise from Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
Transfer News:
Last year, it was widely expected that highly-regarded Ajax defender Jurrien Timber would join his former coach at Manchester United. However, Jurrien Timber ultimately decided against making a transfer to the Premier League. Yet, he is expected to move this summer after disclosing the terms of a deal with the Dutch giants.
Unsurprisingly, this has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs. While Ten Hag remains hopeful of completing a late deal for his compatriot, there has been widespread speculation that Liverpool may try to derail any deal after Timber’s girlfriend was spotted house hunting in Merseyside earlier this month.
While it is unclear whether Jurgen Klopp is looking for another defender, with a midfield overhaul expected to be his top priority this summer, Liverpool colossus Virgil van Dijk has already endorsed Timber.
The Reds’ talisman, who has experience playing with Timber participating for the Netherlands alongside him, was adamant in September that Timber had already improved from his earlier years as a player.

“I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now (at the same age),” Van Dijk explained previously. “I have nothing but praise for him. He is a great player and a true professional. He has so much potential. Hopefully he can develop further. Then it will be all right, I think.”
After beating Manchester United to a deal for Cody Gakpo, Liverpool could disrupt another of United s’ transfer plans if they decide to make an offer for Timber in the summer.
Van Dijk stated that while he did speak with the versatile forward about a move, claims that he played a significant influence in convincing Gakpo to choose Liverpool over Manchester United were overblown.
Speaking back in January, Van Dijk said: “No that was over exaggerated [talk of him convincing Gakpo]. I spoke to him, I can only say good things because I’m here, enjoying my time. We’ve been very successful but the manager said it as well, if it was me it was an easy decision to make, I didn’t need convincing.

“If there was any questions, I answered them honestly. I’m glad he’s here and [lets] get started started as quickly as possible.”
